Cultural Days 2024 in Bordeaux
Dear friends,
On 27/28 May 2024, the French Federation and the Lyceum Club of Bordeaux will be hosting the BCI members in Bordeaux, followed by Lyceum members from all over the world and accompanying persons.
We will be happy to suggest classic or unusual venues, spectacular architecture or Atlantic nature. Then a two-day sightseeing tour will be offered in three different destinations in the Aquitaine region. For each post-tour, the number of people is limited to 50.
29th May
Bordeaux beyond its walls , a choice among several suggestions: wine and vineyards, 17th-century
history and architecture, nature on the banks of the Arcachon basin.
30th May
Bordeaux intramuros, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with walking guided tours that will go back from the English period to the present day.
An “International evening” designed to facilitate exchanges between all, will be held in Bordeaux in a spectacular venue that links the city’s past and contemporary arts.
31st May, 1st and 2nd June
Three possible sightseeing tours :
- The Dordogne region where you will discover parietal art at the Lascaux caves, the medieval and gastronomic town of Sarlat, before admiring the former estate of an American singer, a great and generous lady.
- The Charente and Saintonge : Perhaps less famous than the other two destinations, the trip over there is really worth it. You’ll discover places steeped in history and villages ranked among the most beautiful ones in France. It is the land of the great explorers: visit the citadel of Brouage and the ‘Corderie Royale’, enjoy the medieval town of Saintes with its admirable Romanesque style, and end liquor-tasting in the Hennessy cellars.
- The Basque Country, at the border with Spain, a region with language and culture of its own, Three towns, three strong identities: Bayonne, the Basque town, Biarritz, the seaside resort, Saint-Jean de Luz, the harbour town.
The Bordeaux Lyceum Club was founded in 1959 by Jacqueline Tonnet-Imbert, a lawyer who was committed to women’s causes. The club’s aim is to develop a spirit of friendship between its members through cultural activities and the promotion of the city’s literary, architectural, musical and economic heritage. The members, each with their own talents, contribute to the life of the club.
Along with the organising committee made up of members from different French clubs, the President of the Bordeaux Lyceum club and myself look forward to welcoming you in May in Bordeaux, in the Aquitaine region.
Sabine Coiffe, FFLCI President
